This is my dilemma. My plasma is 12 years old and everyone who watches it says wow what a great picture. I go look at modern TVs and come home and think this is pretty good. I am waiting for it to break down.......

Good luck with that! One of ours sits directly underneath an en-suite bathroom which has had 2 major plumbing failures resulting in the Panny getting drowned....twice! The blooming thing revived once it died out & is still working today.

As always it's your decision - but just have a think of what that would mean if you're looking to invest in batteries as JKenH is ... your decision to not replace the plasma TV costs an additional ~450W of consumption over a modern LED panel, so around 2.5kWh per evening for an average TV using household
Not an average TV using household. The week where the TV is on for 20h or more is a rare one, I'd say 10-15h / week typically.

No point in moving it to another room, as I'd have to move me to another room to watch it.
