Just 5.7 Os today, the 23rd Hawaii of the year. We've not been doing quite as well darn 'ere as those of you who are a bit nearer the Arctic Circle.

However, on the grounds that consistently good results are better than the occasional jour de gloire, I've finally got around to a spot of data analysis on Really High Fives (RHFs) - defined (by me) as five consecutive days during which 30 Os are generated. That is the equivalent of five Maidens in a row, but smooths the graph, so to speak, and indicates a period of really good weather. Not surprisingly, these occurrences bunch up, my best being in May 2012, when over ten days there were 7 Maidens and 3 Hawaiis, which amounted to 6 RHFs in a row. In fact 2012 was the best year so far, with 13 RHFs in all. There were 10 in 2013, but only 1 in 2014 and 2 in 2015 (both in April), nothing in 2016 and one last month. Is this the panels aging, the notorious fickleness of our climate, or just a silly type of measurement? Soon I might have a look at Quite High Fives (the equivalent of five Hawaiis in a row) to see if that gives a more interesting or significant distribution. [and I might try putting an ice pack on the inverter to keep it cool...]

    Isn't it all fun!

Cooling the inverter would be relatively easy - just fit an aircon unit alongside it and only run it at times of high generation.

A more important step might be to cool the panels. Unlikely that you could do that with an aircon unit - though maybe blowing cooled air underneath the panels might achieve something. Perhaps easier to spray panels with cold water (and of course collect it, chill it & recycle)
