Water Bill Rebate Available

Did you know that almost all of the water companies throughout England, Scotland and Wales operate a Water Bill Rebate if you are on -
Income Support
Incapacity Benefit
Child Tax Credit
and other State Benefits, etc?
If you are on a water meter come companies cap the total year's water bill to about £110.
It is worth investigating.
It is worth phoning your own Water provider to see if a rebate would apply to you.

It's also worth mentioning that even if you don't claim benefits,if you have an illness that needs excess use of water, you can have a meter fitted and your bill capped at that of average use, which like our bill, has reduced it considerably.Debt at highest £102k

Just copied this from my water providers website.. wondering what would be classed as the 'average bill'? DH has psoriasis but we're on the 'rateable value' system and not a meter so it wouldn't apply to us.Are there bill reductions available for customers who have large families and are on benefits or are suffering from medical conditions?
If you are receiving benefits and have 3 or more children under 19 living with you permanently, or a member of your household is being treated for certain medical conditions, you could limit your bills to no more than the average household bill.
Qualifying benefits include income support, new working families’ tax credit, child tax credit, pension credit and income based job seekers allowance.
Qualifying medical conditions include flaky skin disease, eczema, psoriasis, incontinence, and home dialysis.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

It does depend on the water company, I'm afraid, there is no across-the-board rebate from what I can see.0

This is interesting - will look into it. With a rather mischeivous (sp?) 4 yr old dd I'm always concerned with water meters as she has previously filled up a bath for herself (from the cold tap so unusable) and many other water wasting things - seems to have stopped due to carry on, but ds can now reach the taps....

I have this with anglian water, but you have to have 3 kids to qualify, my water has gone down from £42 to £26 per month. Also child tax credit didn't count. it was is, jsa, wtc and hb/ctb.0

Just got the 2007-2008 water bill from UnitedUtilities and found it's increased by 9.515% - wish I could earn that on my savings!"As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. Ouch, just checked mine and they'll only cap it to £490 per annum. I only pay £26 a month as it is! Definitely worth it if you have a big family though. Good thread.0
