Would you take the risk?

Ok, so as many of us have found, in this current climate, times are hard.
I work full time earning just over minimum wage. The job is ok but no real future prospects for progressing. My wife is on maternity leave and we are cutting corners left, right and center to make ends meet.
I could really do with increasing our household income.

This is where the decision part comes in.
I have been offered the chance to be a part of a franchise (sort of). This would involve me travelling to just outside london, training for a weekish, then going back home.
The "course" wont actually cost anything, its just going to be travel and accommodation costs and a few tools. I reckon I could do it for about £500 ish and a weeks holiday from work.
I then get listed on a website for a monthly fee and wait for work to come in (would do weekends so still have day job).

The problem is these is no guarantee of work. I know one person who has done the same and gets about £500 to £700 a month for it, but he is down south, i'm up north.

I know its not a lot of money to get started, but to me it's hard to save that much, very small disposable income.

So, would you take the risk?

Every single self employed person will tell you that it doesn't work like that. Of course you could do that but you'll be sat a long time waiting for the phone to ring.

You must ask yourself would you rather regret something you did rather than something you didn't. Personally I would take the chance. Good luck. :)

I'm guessing something like "windscreen repair" and I'm guessing the market is saturated, or the franchise would cost more.

I wouldn't. Or i'd get a view from local business link etc.

I'd rather not say what it's doing right now. No it's not windscreen repair, and from the research I have done the market is far from saturated, quite the contrary up north.

I dont intend to just wait for business. But at least this way I can refer people to the company, which has a good reputation and comes first when google searching, as a sort of proof of ability. And can use it when making flyers/posters.

If you get to a point when you can actually say what it's doing, then please let us know. My curiosity has kicked in. Am guessing it's something to do with solar power on roofs. :)

I certainly will let you know, though your way off with PV.

Iit's a fairly niche market, but one where they are usually willing to spend money.

Without knowing what it is I would be doing, how much the monthly fee is for website listing, whether it is a franchise or not, and how many hours in the month it took for someone to earn between £500 and £700, I'm unable to tell you whether I would take the risk or not.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
