Shampoo/conditioner for fine hair

My hair is a total nightmare. It's very fine and limp. It has a slight tendency to get greasy at the roots, but the rest of it is not in great condition. I look after it and rarely use heated appliances on it, but I get a lot of split ends. My hairdresser says he generally finds fine hair quite fragile.

The problem is I don't know what shampoo/conditioner/treatment to use on it. I have been trying some intensive conditioners recently, but they all leave my hair looking limp and greasy even when they state they are for fine hair. I have used shampoos/conditioners for fine hair, but often find they are not moisturising enough. Shampoos for dry hair leave my scalp unhappy. ARG! Can anyone suggest anything. My hairdressers sell products, but they are stupidly expensive.

I use baby shampoo on my very fine hair, mainly because that's what's on the side of the bath, but actually it's better for my hair than anything else. It leaves it shiny and clean, but doesn't weigh it down or make it greasier. I find that most conditioners are too heavy, so I use a spray leave in one on the ends, and occasionally Aussie 3 minute miracle.

Try an SLS free shampoo like the Naked brand found in boots and superdrug, the body shop rainforest shampoos or the Tigi bedhead ones. SLS is the chemical used to foam up shampoos and other things as it is really cheap. It was originally made to be a car engine degreaser though, and is way too strong for lots of people's skin and hair so they end up with the problems you've described. SLS is actually the chemical used in scientific studies where they want to irritate the skin.

SLS free shampoos do need a little bit more lathering, but they work just as well when you get used to them and if you're anything like me you will find your hair is in much better condition without the SLS. No more dry itchy scalp and brittle hair.

I have fine hair and up until recently its been highlighted to hell.

I found my roots would go limp and flat/greasy but the ends of my hair was like cotton wool and dry.

The best thing i did for my hair was occasionally put skin moisturiser/handcream on the ends of my hair to give it a moisture boost. Next morning i would wash it out.

I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo, leaves my fine hair soft, clean and shiny without needing conditioner.

I have fine hair, and gave up years ago buying anything special, as nothing seemed to make much difference. Then, one day I bought (as usual) the shampoo that was on special offer, and it was amazing - I couldn't believe how silky and shiny it made me hair -re ally lovely, to the point where I got compliments about it.

    That's the good news.

The bad news is that when I went back to the bathroom and checked the name, I found that it was....

Dove pro-age. Made me feel about 100 (even though I'm just about half that!), BUT, it worked, and it worked really well, so since, then I've kept using it, and not thinking about the name/implications!!

Do you drink plenty of water and eat a reasonable diet too, as it helps healthy hair?

As a kid & teen I had really thick hair, but now I have fine hair and had suffered split ends too.

Luckily for me decent haircuts as regularly as I can manage, have gotten rid of the split ends, but though I now have a dry scalp my hair seems to get greasy after 36 hours!

I use herbal essences, it seems to work well on my hair, and conditioner only ever on the tips of the hair, never near the scalp.

Also I meant to say I think hair condition can be affected by medical conditions and hormones to if you're a woman. *sigh*
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Also recommend Perfectil vitamin supplement tablets. I thought they were expensive and not doing anything - within three months I had brittle nails and dry dull hair. Started using it again and although it takes several months before you really notice a difference, they do make one.

I use two in one shampoo and conditioner (whatever make is on offer) on my fine hair as I find that if I just use shampoo with no conditioner then it goes full of static, but if I use shampoo with a separate conditioner, the conditioner tends to weigh it down and make it really greasy looking. Works for me anyway.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
