Hi,
We were recently turned down for finance and as we didn't know why, we signed up for the 30 days trial with experian.
My credit rating was superb, but we applied in my wifes name as she is the wage earner.
We discovered that there still was an outstanding amount listed as late payment/not settled which goes back 2 years to when someone stole out ID and got a load of mobile phones in both our names from several companies.
We thought this had all been sorted, the one remaining on the credit check obviously hadn't even though we had a letter to say it was.
We contacted the company and they emailed experian to update details.
When my wife first spoke to experian she was told it could takeup to 48 hours.
That time has passed and we chased experian, now we are told it could take up 72 hours !
What is annoying is we may lose the deal if we cannot get the credit report updated, and resubmitted.
Considering it is incorrect information, not our fault, and holding up our application, I am not very happy when experian keep moving the goalposts !

Anyone else had similar problems with them ?

I find it very annoying that a few keystrokes take so long for them to update, especially as the finance check on both our credit reports showed up within a few hours, so it is possible !

  • Yes they are dreadful and there are many tales of woe scattered about the internet. When you call them no two people tell you the same thing and the problems are never their fault. Sadly everyone seems to use their credit reports so we're stuck with them.

In my particular case it turned out they had me down at an address I hadn't lived at for about a decade and it was apparently my fault for not telling them I had moved. Eh? I didn't know we had to tell private companies we had never had a contract with that we were moving. I didn't even know Experian existed at that point in time. It took about a month to sort out (had to get a letter from the council proving I lived where I said I did - which took two days - and then get Experian to accept it - which took forever). You can get mortgages with less hassle.

The lesson is to get the £2 statutory report every January and go through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure Experian haven't messed up.

I agree , although they have stated 48 to update your records , this companies are slow that it may up to month to catch up and by that time the records becomes out of date.

  • Thanks for the replies guys.
Seems There is not a lot I can do then.
You would hope something like this, that has a massive impact on peoples lives, would have a regulating body that ensures it keeps up standards. But it seems not :(
