Losing my job?

I work as a picker/packer at an internet firm whilst waiting for my call back for selection for the grenadier guards. I have recently made quite a few mistakes and have been told 3 more and I'm gone. This wouldn't be a problem but the forces haven't replied in 9 weeks. I've sent a few letters but nothing yet. What should i do?

I have already done combat simulations and training with members of 40 comando, with things like that everything was organised and in the right place, form where the fore grip was mounted on my rifle to where the pouches where an where the straps where cut and burnt on my osprey vest so that it fit tight no matter what i was wearing under it. No mistakes have ever been made in said situations and organising and cleaning my gear however I come here and I get two completely different items mixed up. Just feel like leaving my job now to save the boss the hassle of firing me."if it bleeds we can kill it" 42 Commando0

Stop making mistakes.
If you feel there is a reason for you making the mistakes work out how to overcome it (a greater concentration on your behalf, training etc.)Be grateful you're not sacked already. I would have sacked you if you made 1 mistake, assuming you're picking and packing GRENADES. You're a risk to everyone and yourself if you make mistakes in this field.
Well done for reading the OP completely wrong. I can't believe you think he's packing grenades!0 -

i'm just glad i wasn't in iraq with you. you just jumped into a thread without reading it. you'd be a liability in the field.0 -

stick your job out as long as you can, when/if you you get your papers through you can walk into your boss' office p1ss on his desk then throw your resignation letter down and ask him how he likes those apples.
how about joining the TA in the meantime? at the least you should get some free kit

fingers crossed for you then. the MOD are slow when it comes to paperwork, but luckily we seem to be good at winning wars.
get your physical fitness up, initial training is hard enough without having to redo your runs etc.0 -
Different people suit different jobs - your forte clearly isn't picking/packing but you may make the world's best soldier!
Keep as focussed as you can and try to keep the job, improve in it (accuracy etc may be useful skills to transfer to your Army life), and look for more temping work if it doesn't work out at your current place. MOD, like most big organisations, is slow - however 9 weeks is probably worth a quick call - just to check nothing has got lost in the post!0 -
Take it as a lesson that while everything was right during an evaluation event (i'm guessing that's what it was) that when things aren't in a safety net environment (i.e. think a terrorist who wants to put a bullet in you) if you make a mistake, you're being announced on the 6 o'clock news. That's a pretty harsh statement to make i know, but i'm guessing you already knew it, are prepared for it & willing to accept that circumstance - if so, well played to you, i certainly wouldn't do it!
As for the job, you're lucky it has to be said, if you're packing a "simple mistake" can lead to a LOT of hassle & lose a LOT of money - who's to say that mistake doesn't lead to a contract being cancelled & a million pounds worth of sales being lost? I know the job may seem a bit mundane given what you want to do, but you need to treat it exactly the same way as being a guardsman, you might not have someone trying to blow your head off with an AK but that doesn't mean you can be lax with details.
Also i wouldn't worry too much about the wait time, with the restructuring of the forces at the minute would you prefer waiting a few months OR being taken quickly only to be booted after a year due to cutbacks? If you are that concerned, phone the recruitment offices & ask what the situation is, if done correctly this may also be an excellent reminder of your skill for requesting sit reps and acting accordingly.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

You're going to struggle in a contact if you ever end up in Afghan and are someone who prefers organisation and order because as soon as the rounds start cracking over your head it all goes out the window.0 -
have you called your recruiting sergeant or been into the office 9 weeks is a long time to hear nothing. My son goes starts basic in April and has never had to wait that long.
I have never heard of anyone sending letters to chase them up. Did you apply online if you did that will take forever go into the recruiting office.
Have you taken your BARB tests yet.
Or go onto FB and look at the army jobs page they will give you an update on the status of your application.0
