i need some sort of fencing , mainly for privacy. have seen a few options , just need some help/advice to decide.
evergreen-takes too long to grow and as it would be next to wall, may have root problems
fencing- have seen it blowing off in high winds.
so
have been looking at artificial ivy, bushes, greenery etc.
have never actually seen it in situ anywhere, just seen it on web.
would like to know of anybodys expereince or thoughts about this.
also seen willow fencing which seems to be ok
costwise
sturdiness and privacy etc
any feedback/advice appreciated
thanks

Need some clarification.. if there's a wall, why do you need a fence ? If it's not your wall you can't fix fencing to the wall.
The maximum height allowed from your soil level is 2 metres otherwise you need Planning Permission.
Evergreens such as leylandii have deep tap roots which go straight down rather than tree type roots btw.
You could, if your garden has the room, create areas of privacy by erecting a gazebo or pergola. You could also erect trellis panels within your garden.
Most wooden fencing/trellis is pressure treated and guaranteed for fifteen years. Using metposts/similar stops the wooden fence posts rotting.
Wooden is probably cheapest if you want privacy not just fencing. Suggest you have a measure up and look around and compare prices online too.
Wickes charge £20 to deliver from store so cheaper to order online. Wilkinson does packs of fence posts. There are large companies which supply most eg Forest Bark, Grange so suggest looking at their websites.
I bought an arch from ASDA over £100 under list price, saved £20 on a potting bench at Woolworths - shopping around is worth it.0 -
If you're worried about fencing blowing away you're going to have the same trouble with anything artificial. Concrete panel fences are stronger but will cost more, if you're doing the wooden panels you're going to have to secure them better to stop them blowing. Best bet may be the willow and at the same time start to grow some ivy so in a few years it will be private and secure.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

We live in a wind trap.
Solid fencing panels act like sails and really put pressure on the fence posts.
What we did was really sink in concrete fence posts and then used double sided paling fence. This gives some privacy, but also allows wind to blow through the fence somewhat. It has survived several gale force winds over the years.0 -
I live in a wind trap and use to have trouble but seemed to have cured it. I've suggested this on here before so apologies to those i'm repeating myself to but what i've done is:
I've got 6' wooden panels and concrete posts and i drilled 6 holes in each panel, 3 at each side top; middle; and bottom. So now while the fence is in position get some thin but strong rope/wire and start to tie all the panels together with the posts and the adjacent panel, any one panel can't blow out and the chances that they all go at once is minimal.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
