Homeowner not living at home...

Options
Hi

My granma currently has a mortgage on her property. Due to mobility issues she isn't living at the property, but her son is.

She wrote to her mortgage lender informing them that corresondence should be sent to her rented flat. However they have enquired as to why she is no longer residing at the mortgaged property and questioned whether it was being rented out.

Her son is not paying rent, and she is continuing to pay the mortgage.

My question is where does she stand legally...is she likely to be in breach of her mortgage? What should she tell the lender?

thanks

Pays nothing at all as a contribution towards living in the property?

How does your Grandma afford to run 2 properties?

She just needs to tell them that a close family relative is living in the property, if her son was loving there while she was there she could give that information.

They want to check that she is not commercially letting the property, in which case they may want to move her to a higher mortgage rate. She should make clear that it is not a commercial arrangement and she is not receiving rent.
