Pension Unpaid for 2 Years

This post is on behalf of my nan.
She moved from London to Dorset 2 years ago, and into sheltered housing. For 2 years she had been living off her disability allowance and pension credits, and had to pay £600 per month rent from it too.
She didn't know that her actual pension payments had stopped until she enquired about getting help with paying her rent, as she was struggling, and someone told her that she was just receiving pension credits, and not her actual pension. My nan did not know the difference.
They have just backdated her pension for those 2 years, and have given her £10,000.
But I was wondering if this is good enough? She received no official apology or explanation. For 2 years she had to virtually ration what she bought, use up all her savings, and lose out on any interest she may have gained over those 2 years.
What course of action should she now take?

Sorry I don't really see what you are complaining about?
The government paid the pension she was owed according to your post when they were told of the mistake
An apology would have been nice but the "interest" you talk about would be mininal
Really its people's own responsibility to keep track of their financial affairs
If your grandmother can't do it then it falls to her relatives0 -
Well, it is up to her (and you her family) to make sure she is getting what she is entitled to. If she was struggling and in so much difficulty, surely you and the rest of the family should have rallied round?
She should ask for interest on the unpaid pension (but that may be part of the 10K). And she could always ask for an apology. But adults are supposed to look after their own affairs. Unless there is a mental capacity issue such as seniity which you haven't mentionned I fail to see who has done wrong?
Now that she has this money, she must feel better, surely?0 -
Surely pension credit is worked out according to how much pension you receive?
I agree it should have been clear that she was not getting everything.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I'd question why the pension stopped. It sounds like it happened when she moved into sheltered housing - did she by any chance close any of her bank accounts at that time?0

I think they WILL have paid interest in the £10000 - it should count as deferred pension.0
