Quit job and wait for background check?

I'm going through a background check for a decent office job that's suppose to start on 12th April. Currently I'm employed as a shelf stacker in a convenience store, and tomorrow it's the end of the first four weeks where I'm able to leave with one week's notice for pay, or immediately without pay. If I don't leave by the end of tomorrow, I'm looking at handing in four week's notice or paying the company to release me immediately.

Does your contract say that you have to give four weeks notice after 4 weeks, it's not normal

Normal notice is 1 week if you are paid weekly. I would check if I was you to be honest.

Be careful because if it is only a week and your not aware, tomorrow when you give your notice they may just say to you go now and give you one weeks pay in lieu of notice. So no pay for 3 weeks even longer if your background check is not satisfactory

I checked. It's at least four week's after the first four week's probation is complete. I either quit before probation ends and wait for my background check, or end up paying the company to release me early. I'm not sure if it's paying the remainder of the month for the shifts I work or if they can make me pay the full month.

You dont at any time have to pay a company to release you to go immediately, is this what they have told you.

How have you checked, do you have a written contract or is this just what someone has told you.
if so, they are talking rubbish,

Ring ACAS, they will tell you the law, not what some one has told you.

I've signed a contract. After first four weeks are completed it's four week's written notice. Doesn't mention the consequences of not giving this notice but I'm guessing employer can sue me?

Wait for some more responses from employment law people coming on here after their tea.

They will be along to help.
