Deceased pension claim?

I dont know where to start with this as I have never had to handle anything like this before so here goes.
My deceased father had a pension with his employer (Cavenham Foods) and I have just found the document. It is only a typed letter and a cetificate of assurance of equivalent pension benifits. All this dates back to 1973. I know he did not claim the pension and Cavenham foods no longer exist so I do not know where to start. Can anyone advise please?
