19" TFT, DVI, 700:1, 10/15ms, 3 yr warranty -198inc vat

hi all,

I've been hunting around for a new 19inch TFT monitor with as many features as possible for a good price (sub 220 pounds).

This AG Neovo F419 monitor seems a bargain to me bu because im computer dumb I'd appreciate a second opinion from you knowledgable people:

19 inch
700:1 contrast
DVI
10/15ms (not sure why the 2 figures?- see pdf link below)
3 year onsite warranty.

198.57 inc vat from dabs:
http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/monitorsanddisplays/productView.htm?quicklinx=3jwz

The manufacturers pdf spec sheet:

http://data.neovo.com/doc/english/product%20PDF/F-419.pdf

It seems to cover all the bases but 3 things I'm not sure about are:

1) How good is AG Neovo as I've not used or seen their products before? Reliable?

2) Why do EBuyer quote 25ms?!

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=6232502850&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=55183

The manufacturers website description says 25ms and in brackets 10/15ms?! Then in the spec pdf they only mention 10/15 not 25! Is it a standard 25ms screen then or is it 10? or 15?! Dabs do not mention 25ms at all!!
I find this very confusing...!

3) To take advantage of DVI do i need a special graphics card and if so how much do they cost and which one is recommended?

Any help/comments on the product&price and other suggested alternatives would be much appreciated!

If this gets a good consensus then I'll order v soon!

Thanks!

first off the repsonse time is 25ms, sometimes it is quoted as 10:15 (10ms to rise and 15ms to fall which = 25ms)

so this may not be very good if you want to play games as you may get a ghosting effect (where on fast moving images they will look blurry)

i can't comment on the quality as i have never used any of their products.

the rest of the specification looks fairly good, and DVI is a digital interface but it also has the the more standard analog VGA connector. It is pretty good as most monitors in your price range will not include a DVI input. With DVI the text is meant to be clearer and some people say just generally better quality as the signal from your computer is digital.

but if you look around you can find slighter better tfts for a bit more (price has come down alot on 19" models)
although most will be VGA only (although this may suit you if your graphics card does not have DVI).

a popular choice seems to be the LG 1915s with a 12ms response time and a fairly reputable company.
have a look at it here:

Thanks for the info Faisal - i'm v annoyed with dabs for not just stating 25ms instead of 10:15!

I'm not interested in 25ms screens.....shame because the rest of the specs and the price looked good and I thought I had a bargain :-(

But I did see the LG you recommended and i know they are supposed to be good. Only thing is that I'd really like DVI as that will be the standard in future.

What with TFT prices dropping like a stone at the moment I can't help thinking I'd be a fool to buy a 200-250 quid screen now without DVI when in a month or so the DVI ones will drop into my range.....

Every candidate screen seems to lack one factor - either too expensive, too ugly (e.g Arianet ones) no DVI or slow response time...

    I'll keep hunting...

well its open to opinion ......but i like a very sleek and simple design with a few lines and a thin, equal thickness frame around the screen and a small base which doesnt stick out.... the arianet design is too coarse and puts me off...actually in the design respect id say the dabsvalue 19 inch with a thin black frame and metal silver base looks very nice indeed - on the picture at least...shame the spec isnt what i want..

  • I've had a 19" Neovo TFT for a couple of years now (S-19 I think). Even though its quoted as 25 ms I've never really noticed blurring in games. The only time I've noticed blurring was when using a TV card and watching fast moving images.

I'd think that their 25ms screens now would be much better than mine so should be good for all uses.

Only my opinion though so don't go quoting me :)

Sorry to sound lame - but what does 'DVI' mean and how will it differ from the way I currently connect and use my CRT?

    Cheers.

DVI is a digital connection - as opposed to VGA (or DSUB) which is analogue. Therefore connecting your monitor up using the DVI port (if available), produces a better (sharper, more vibrant) image on screen.

I have had this monitor for quite a while now, i paid nearly £400 for it too, at this price its a steal
Its a very good monitor and it gets a rave review from pcpro, one of the reasons that made me decide to buy.

There is slight ghosting in fast moving objects, but it is slight.
Very happy with my choice and would highly recommend this monitor.

If you havent got a video card with dvi get one, it makes the display so much clearer. There are plenty of cheap cards with a dvi connection on.

Link will not work... go to https://www.pcpro.co.uk and search for neovo, and it looks like you will have to register. It gets 6 stars anyway.
