Hi all I am looking for a bit of advice. I hope you can bear with the story as its a bit long winded.
I have been working in the NHS in admin for 10 years now. In 2006 I started working for my current NHS Trust. I was employed as an Admin Asst for 15 hours (2 days) a week. I was taken on to provide admin support for our local Macmillan Nurses. Although the work I did was for the PCT I was employed through the local Foundation Trust, on the back of funding for a consultant post. My line Manager who was a band higher than me worked full time and a part of her job was to work for the consultant, however was employed through the PCT (Confused???). Roll forward to 2009 and the talk of reorganisation started. For the next year no one would confirm to me what would happen when the team ultimately split into Foundation (Hospital team) and PCT (community team). Came to Sept 2010 and finally it was confirmed that suprise, suprise I was to go the Hospital with the Consultant and my line manager was to go with the community team - the following month!. So I was asked, although I didnt really see what option I had, to be the Consultants secretary. They also asked me to increase my hours which at the time I wa happy to do, so I increased to about 25 hours a week. The extra hours were only ever done as over time and I have never had a new job description , or contract. The consultant who I worked for then left and I have been doing my normal 15 hours a week since then (approx) 8 months as there has been no need for me to do more hours.
Well done for staying with me this far.... Now they are interviewing for a new consultant and hopefully there will be someone in post within the next few months. I am concerned they are going to ask me to increase my hours again, however I dont actually want to. Where do I stand? I think they realistically will want someone to do 28 hours (ish) a week. I have been covering sick leave in the community team recently and it has really highlighted to me that I cant cope with working more than my 2 days a week, with 2 young kids, 1 dog, 2 cats, a husband that works away quite a bit, being a governor at school, trying to set up a business making nappy cakes and no family close by. Any ideas where I stand? Would love it if they made me redundant. I feel like I was kind of forced into the job and would certainly never apply for my job.
Sorry that was sooooo long, thanks

Positions are made redundant not people.
There are a lot of assumptions here, I would wait and see what happens, you may find they cover it n a job share or may be happy with the current hours.0
