When people refer to the work programe I don't actually know what it is about and would like to be more aware. Is it where you work up to 30 hours for free, but still receive your benefits plus expenses?

Thank you to everybody for your replies, and at the risk of sounding ungrateful, I am none the wiser. From confused.com0

What I really would wish is that everyone on the WP would all make a concerted effort to make complaints to the providers, to their local MP's and to those in power so that they know exactly how they feel to be treated this way.
Surely if everyone made the effort that it would force some kind of change to the system. The problem is people moan on the Internet and to their friends etc but really you have to make a noise if you want to at least try and enforce change. Its getting to the point where people seem happy to be walked all over these days without any sort of fight or trying to stand up for themselves.0 -
I have and got a reply from the Ops Director and now have written to Iain Duncan Smith and Chris Grayling. In the middle of thinking what to do next when I get the fob offer reply 'oh they are too busy to reply so we are on their behalf' etc. Maybe get a petition going and hope we get 100,000 people to sign it so they have to talk about what they REALLY think the WP is in parliament and/or email my MP who is Labour! What I really would wish is that everyone on the WP would all make a concerted effort to make complaints to the providers, to their local MP's and to those in power so that they know exactly how they feel to be treated this way.

Good on you LadyMissA. The thing is this WP is just another re-hash of all the previous long term jobless schemes that have run for the last 15-20 years or so. As soon as one has had its time it just gets re-named with the same old schemes in place, i.e. how to do a C.V, jobsearching, interview tips etc etc. Its about time they brought about 21st century help for people out of work. We simply are not providing enough resources or real help to get those long term out of work into suitable sustainable employment.
Putting people into Tesco or Poundland stacking shelves or doing this CAP programme which is likely to come into effect for longer term unemployed is going to do nothing to enhance their opportunities for employment. Its simply a way of appeasing the tax payers who get lied to in the media that everyone out of work is a lazy good for nothing waste of space.
There is a real case for discrimination against the unemployed in this country that needs to be looked into from a legal point of view. It seems that the unemployed have no rights, no help from anyone. These schemes make life much tougher for those out of work than helping them into employment.
Of course the overall reality is, 400,000 jobs does not go into 3m+ unemployed. IT never has and it never will. We will never see a situation whereby growth in this country exceeds people needed to fill jobs. But that would never fit in with the ideology of the govt that never touches on that subject and never will. There will always be a fairly large unemployment figure in this country and no scheme and no amount of economic improvement will ever change that. Even during the boom years of Labour when spending when through the roof and they created a large number of jobs by false economy did we ever see employment figures of less than 1.4m which is still a hell of a lot of people to account for. That in itself just proves that they cannot fix the unfixable, however so long as those in power are kept happy in the knowledge that you are being made to do something for your benefits then that sits alright with them.0
