Jeez -patronising or what! All I asked for was whether the fee was reasonable and fully admitted I was not savvy in these matters. I asked for help- isn't that what these forums are for? Why are you being so aggressive towards me? It was YOU that mentioned sueing.

This section is normally very good for information and has a core of helpful posters. However, today we seem to have suffered with an influx of trolls causing trouble for no reason other than to be abusive.

I have seen no posts claiming investments make 8% a year every year. Would you like to present an example to back this up or does that not fit with your agenda?

    But didn't you say, a while ago, that you've been getting 12% P/A ?

On a good year 15-30% is normal, on average 8% a year is also possible, you could make a loss of 8% on a bad year and still be consistant with the above.

I think you've got to look at the risk of loss you want to take

For the OP, nine years to retirement another 8% loss in a year is really gonna hurt

Anyone who advises others to put everything into one or two tracker funds is a complete idiot. Your a like a gold or silver bug- bonkers.

But maybe they'd be better off concentrating their portfolio into a tracker or two rather than a multitude of funds that are so diversified that the annual return is diluted to a % that is less than that obtained by placing all their money into cash. The Windfall Portfolio was one that springs to mind.

Yes. I have averaged over 12% a year since mid 90s. That is not the same as what bigf is claiming though.

He has a point in that if you only have a few tracking funds you need to make sure they are widely spread investment wise...

this is possible now...it wasn't say 10 years ago

So Mr IFA, what sort of low risk portfolio might you suggest for the OP until she reaches retirement age?

Your fund is probably worth £80-100k if you will get £4k a year out of it

    It's worth 113K (was 123K last year)

I suppose as I don't have a lot of assets that need managing the fee felt like a lot of money. I always imagined people who had an IFA had complicated tax/investments/savings affairs and I don't!

I'll find out about SIPP wrappers and I will ask him outright what he is giving for the fee.

    Thank you

As a matter of interest, our self invested retirement fund is now almost 2% greater in value than this time last year, and we have taken over 6% in income.

Yeah we're not going to take an annuity until we have to

But I think the OP didn't want to take risks
