Hi Everyone,
My daughter will be 5 this year and we were talking about her having a party, She has never had a birthday party before normally we do something as a family on her birthday and my mum etc come round after dinner to sing happy birthday and see her presents, Loads of her friends in nursery are having parties at the moment so she has been asking when is hers
We will be hiring a nearby hall which has an indoor soft play area, bouncy castle and childrens toys
She has asked for a Minnie Mouse birthday cake and I was thinking of making something like this:

I have never baked a cake in my life!! The nearest ive come to making cakes is rice crispy and cornflakes cakes lol
How would I go about making a cake like this? The filling would be jam and buttercream sponge
Her birthday is not for a while yet so I would be able to have a few go's and if its a disaster I could buy one but they are expensive!! I looked online and for one like that is over £100?!
Even if I could manage 1 tier I would be over the moon!
Thanks in advance

You could make a round sponge for the face and two smaller round sponges for the ears and make the cake lie flat on a board. Sort of like this.

My daughter made a Mickey Mouse cake for her son like that. The trouble is with both Mickey & Minnie there is a lot of black icing on them and it is quite difficult to colour icing black enough.
As you've not made a cake before, I think the easiest way would be to make a sponge cake, fill it and ice it and put a Minnie Mouse topper on it.
Have a look on ebay for cake toppers.
Maybe something like this

This one is a bit expensive, but pretty!

These would look good on cupcakes.

Hi
My daughter had a Minnie Mouse cake for her 5th Birthday in January.
I bought (from costco) a rectangular cake in green icing, added some ricepaper flowers. I made a Minnies Bowtique (shop) to stand beside it and added some figures to the cake.
It was simple yet effective.
The Bowtique took ages to make but an hour a night for a week did the trick.
Hope this helps0 -
The cake looks great! It wouldn't be too difficult to make. Lorraine Pascal has a great how to make a three tier cake, I think if you were to follow this you might end up with something similar

For the ears and bow I would use gumpaste, you can buy it in cake shops already coloured. There are great tutorials on YouTube for making bows and bits. Could you use red ribbon instead of the piping around the cakes?
Good luck hope it all goes well and whatever you make I'm sure your little girl will love it, would love to see some photos of the finished cake
