Where have all the sardines gone?

Have noticed these last few weeks that the cheaper brands of sardines in tomato sauce are in very short supply. Those in oil are still on shelves as are the more expensive brands of those in tomato sauce. This seems to be in all major retailers. Anyone any ideas - have only 2 tins left and often have them a lunchtime sandwich!!

Yes, I've noticed that they have been going in and out of stock at my local ASDA for some time now.

They are a wild, natural resource, I suppose. I'm not aware of any current over-fishing problem, though.

However, pilchards have always been available. They are, to all intents and purposes, the same.

  • None at all in my local Aldi at the weekend - either in tomato sauce or oil. OH most put out as, on toast, they are his favourite snack! Home Bargains usually stock Princes so will try there when time permits.

if they are sourced from the philippines - this may have something to do with it. 3 month ban on fishing to allow stocks to recover.

None to be seen in our Lidl's this afternoon. Not even in oil. What has happened to Norwegian sardines?

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

Maybe the Norwegian salmon escaped from the fish farms and ate them ?
