Feeling adventurous, I picked up a can of squid in american sauce the other day, £1.49. There aren't any cooking instructions on the can but it looks like you can eat it straight away, as a starter I suppose.
The american sauce is quite hot, I mixed it in a saucepan with some tinned tomatoes and chopped fresh mushrooms and it made a lovely pasta sauce.
I reckon you could warm this with any combination of vegetables that you have handy, tinned or fresh. Such as onions, peppers, courgettes, sweetcorn or beans, whatever you fancy. A good way to get some of your five a day. This will also stretch further the more you add.
The sauce retains a kick but isn't too hot.
Squid isn't for everyone, but for those that like a mediterranean flavour this is a quick and easy meal. You could also do this with tinned sardines, even cheaper and one of your oily fish portions a week.

Just looking to save a few pennies here and there

Thanks, great idea, sounds wonderful. I actually noticed the squid and was tempted to buy, but I didn't know how I'd use it. Now I do, I only wish I'd bought some.:T0
