Found this a while a go while trawling about the Net. Apologies if its already been posted somewhere else.
For those of you old enough to remember the old Commodore64 game "Elite", try this: Oolite. http://www.aegidian.org/oolite/
All the elements of the original game are there, and have been expanded upon, while trying to retain the ethos of the original game.
Its quite a sizeable download, but it is well worth it.

I used to play that on an Amiga (and now I'm showing my age!)
