Employer wants me to create a gmail account

I have a dedicated work email, we have all been given some android phones. They now want us to create a gmail account so we can download apps. for it.

Does anybody else think this is a bit of a liberty, i don't particularly want to sign up to an online account unless its specifically for me?

I'm not high tech so don't know why this would require gmail? Doesn't your employer have webmail? Whatever - I think this is an unfair expectation - especially coming at a time when people are ditching their gmail accounts out of privacy concerns.

Android is owned by google. You need a gmail account to get apps. Just call the gmail account

joebloggs . name of employer @ gmail.com and only use it for work related business.

Right, that makes sense now. Will register with work email.

You don't have to *use* gmail, just sign up for it. It can't hurt you if you don't use it!

(And if your employer insists, and gives you a free phone, it would be a bit soft to refuse IMHO)
