Employer not deducting tax

Just a little advise if you can:
I transfered to a new company on the 1st January 2012 under TUPE. In December they collected an application pack for all my details this included filling in a P46 for tax purposes.
I followed this up with a P45 from the previous company on the 12th January 2012.
My first paydate was on the 07th February for the month of January. My NI was paid but there was no tax paid, when I asked payroll about the non payment of tax I was told "It might be a tax rebate or we just haven't inputted the correct codes, it may come out next month" it shows a tax code of 747L on my payslip (should be 753L, which is on my P45)
I was paid again this month on the 07th March and there has been no tax deducted again.. I am going to call payroll again this morning, but wanted a bit of advise before they fobb me off again (I don't want a huge tax bill)

Looks like your employer is applying the code of 747L (emergency) from your P46 but applying it on a cumulative basis instead of month 1. Also looks possible that your P45 has gone astray as this would have corrected the tax.
Both points need ckecking with your payroll dept.0
