Currently working as a flight attendant and looking to re train to do something else. I am potentially interested in working as a counsellor? What to I do? Open uni or anyone know of any other training programmes?

There is not a lot of money in counselling. Most counsellors are self employed so have to spend time, effort and money recruiting clients. The NHS in my area doesn't employ full time counsellors because they have to invest so much time in supervision etc for them.

IMO it is a job to go into if you don't need a particularly high standard of living as it is expensive to do the training and hard work to generate a case load. There are lots of other options for support work where you can train in using counselling skills e.g. mental health or substance misuse projects where you can use similar models to counselling but are guaranteed a wage.

In Scotland COSCA are the body that provides the training required prior to undertaking degree/post grad study http://www.cosca.org.uk/ and the counselling skills course is excellent. This on its own costs £1K+ before even looking at the degree.
