Claiming Tax back

Hi, i would just like to know if i am able to claim any tax back, and roughly how much i will get back.

So far this year i have worked for about 2 months, i have paid roughly £140 tax, not including national insurance contributions. Whilst unemployed i was also claiming income based JSA.

I would just like to know if it is possible to claim the tax back as it would help me out, and how to claim it back.

    Impossible to tell without realistic figures. What will your earnings be for 11-12 up to 5.4.12? And what Code is on your payslips.

    My earnings from 2011 Tax year to 2012 end of tax year are roughly £3600, including income based Jobseekers allowance, which is taxable income. And my tax code was the bog standard 747L (no longer working)

    If you've got your latest P45 then send it in to HMRC with a P50. All the tax deducted will be refundable :

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/p50.pdf

    ..... but you can't do that if you're back on JSA. You'll need to wait until they give you a P60 at the year end.

    Then I just send them the P60? Sorry im a total newbie when it comes to tax in general lol

    Yes.

    But it's going to be into May before you get the P60.
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    How did you end up paying tax on that tax code? If you have left work and have a p45 and are currently not working you can ask for a repayment now if you think you will not work again this tax year.
