Aberdeen architect & builder

Hi there, first post so here goes....

I need to find a good (fair-priced) architect and, hopefully, builder in and around Aberdeen. I know the local market where I currently live, but am expecting prices to be a bit different in the city. Can anyone help? Who to avoid would be as useful as who to use!

Thanks

  • You will be much cheaper using out of town builders and architects

  • Now this is exactly the thread I was looking for and in the Aberdeen area too.

Bordersbargainhunter have you had any luck with this? Or, if anyone else has any suggestions as I'm looking to extend the property I'm in at the moment and haven't a clue where to start!
  • Hi Copperplate

I have not had any suggestions yet about who to go to (other than out of town - Thanks littlereddevil). I live in the Scottish Borders, but come from Aberdeen originally, hence the link, but as I was a child had no need of help with building - except when I was very young and was more interested in chewing my lego blocks than building with them!

Have you any thoughts on who to go to/avoid? I wondered if we should be posting this question somewhere else to catch attention? With house prices going mad in Aberdeen - don't they always - thought this would have been more relevant.

Hi BBH. Ended up looking up the registered architects site and went through to find ones outside Aberdeen. Have emailed a couple and will probably just give them a phone and talk through what I am looking for. Even word of mouth up here is pretty useless - everyone seems to NOT know of an architect/builder!

hi guys, hope I'm not too late to help but I'd suggest calling up a company called r davidsons, based just off george st in aberdeen. an ex of mine works there as a builder and he certainly did good work in my flat :D they are always busy and do a lot of work in pubs in town so they must be good to get so much business.
  • We had friends who used a company that I think were called Deeside Building Company or Deeside Contractors based in Banchory and they were delighted with them. I'm not sure who did the architect work but can find out if you're interested.
  • Thanks Copperplate, Lynsayjane & Aberdeen Taff (? sounds like the inventor of Confused.com!).

Still looking, but haven't been up to Aberdeen for a few weeks. Need to build an extension for Mum now that she is struggling with the stairs but wanting to stay in the house we grew up in. Garden space isn't a problem, I just need to find someone who won't rip her off while we are stuck down here. Have experienced bad trades before when we were abroad and she was persuaded into work that didn't need doing which was then done badly and cost to put right - the same old story.

Copperplate - hope you're finding the right person for your job.
  • Hi Aberdeen Taff,

Would appreciate that if you can spare the time.
