Sainsburys Staff- Anyone get reduced food items?

I don't dispute anything your saying, so if managers are sacked for giving the workers permission to reserve food ect that's upto them, I can only go of what I have seen with my own eyes when I have been at the till.
I'm just saying - The policy is clearly outlined in the handbook. It's not worth taking the risk, even if your direct line manager gives permission. They're only responsible, it's the SM who's accountable and can make those decisions.0 -

As I don't work in a supermarket I am sure the OP whom does will find your advice very useful. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
If staff are allowed to put 'damaged stock' aside, what's to stop them damaging the packaging for their own benefit?I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -

if it happens on a regular basis then im pretty sure it would be flagged up, to use the handsets you have to have a username and password so its logged that way.0 -

At certain times of the year(whilst working in 3 different stores) ive had some freebies(staff only) but these were decided by management. So it is possible to get items at special prices or free.
Was this in a sainsburys store as one of the management team has already said things like this don't happen, tee heeIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

Yes, albeit we didnt pay for the items but they were definitely free for staff, it was the plants/trees that were in store for christmas and alot were left over and the day after boxing day they were free for staff. It may vary depending on the store manager as to what he does with items left over from occaisons.
I cant remember any other freebies ive had in the past but im sure ive had some.0 -
Thanks everyone for the replies and congratulations on my job offer:). I think it is really cool to get expensive fish like Salmon or meat for a very cheap price or even better get freebies! (which everyone loves). I would buy anything from fresh vegetables, to mostly fish.
I went to Waitrose yesterday and I bought Hovis thick sliced White bread for 19P, there was still two more days before it expired and was the only one left so as a Customer I did get lucky a few times in the past.
I just would hate to think food gets wasted and thrown in the bins, I mean even if sell by date is gone, it can still last for upto more then 2 weeks. Heck Ive eaten food gone by 3 weeks even lol. In local small markets, no sell by date is there and ive seen rotting fruits being sold still so I think Sainsburys reduced good items are a good offer.
I told my sisters friend and got a reply. She said that because she works in the evenings, she asks the people out at the chiller if they have anything for reduced price, also the guys walking around with the trolleys. The staff know her though because she works as Counter Assistant. If the manager or staff allow this then I would want to take this offer, I just feel a bit embarassed to go upto from another department saying (Hi!, do you have anything for reduced price?) since the people that work in say fresh foods don't know me.
Anyway I am not too bothered by it, I just always like to make the most of things. If there is good offer, discount then I don't want to miss it, whether I am staff or customer I like thinking sensibly about the way I manage my money:D.0 -
There are good reasons why it is company policy that it is not allowed it is to protect the company against fraud and to protect the employees against accusations of wrong doing.
If you see something like this then you can report it.
I do work for Sainsburys but not in a store, Every Penny as my own!.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
This may be a case for undercover bossIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
