Mortgages for a discharged bankrupt

Hello

not sure if i should post in the Bankruptcy threads. Just some advice really. How long after discharge should I wait to even attempt a mortgage application and are there any lenders out there I should try first. Its not for this year as I am in my second year as a discharged bankrupt and I after promotion at work I am in a position to look at building up a deposit. I am not on a IPO so the line has been drawn the day I was discharged. i am under no illusions but would simply like to move back into ownership of a small property worth no more than 100k and put down at least a 25 percent deposit. 2 more years? 4 years discharged then... thoughts appreciate any advice as simply dont know.

In fact is it best to wait the 6 years post discharge? Off the credit file then?

Thanks
jason

    Hi Jason,

No time limit with Halifax, although you always have to declare bankruptcy and furthermore it is subject to a credit score.

Would suggest you open a basic account with Halifax and start diverting your income into it. When they like the look of your account conduct they will upgrade you to a full current account and then behave and a credit card and then with a big enough deposit probably a mortgage.

You do have to show excellent conduct though and ensure nothing in the background affects your credit rating.

The other traditional banks are not really showing any love to discharged bankrupts at the moment...
