I am disabled and claim DLA. I am currently employed as a social carer but am on SSP. My GP thinks i shouldnt work in care again and at the min, shouldnt even think about working. I want to work, even if its just a few hours a week, for my sanity. But who would take me on? Can anyone recommend any help/support groups etc that can point me in the right direction. Or at least any companies that tend to take on those with disabiities.

PS I have SLE, it varies. Can be fine one day, but in agony/tired the next.

Im only 29, feel like i have more to give yet, even if i find it hard xxx
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

You could get in touch with your local jobcentre and ask to make an appointment to see their disability employment adviser(DEA). They don't just deal with people claiming benefits, they can help support people who are employed but experiencing difficulties in remaining in work due to their health problems.

You could also consider voluntary work for a few hours a week, to see how you get on. It may also give you the chance to try out a different job and see if it is suitable for you before considering retraining.

Remploy employ disabled people, but after this week's news I doubt if there is much chance of working with them. In my area there is a charity called the Shaw Trust, which helps disabled people train in order to get into work - not just traditional courses such as academic or vocational courses, but also managing disabilities. I used to know a blind girl who was trained how to use public transport (she lost her sight in an accident at 13 years old).

There is also a company called Starting Point in my area. It doesn't help specifically with disabilities, but is designed to help people get into work. I would imagine that they would help a disabled person as wmuch as an able bodies person.
