Finally I have a mortgage I can start to pay off!

That's remarkable - it really tells you how it would be without the recent efforts to reduce food waste. As for the potatoes - I don't really eat potatoes nowadays, I do no regular food preparation at all, because of the chronic fatigue, but if I could I'd have potatoes every day
(that's me with my tongue hanging out in anticipation
).

The food waste by supermarkets is utterly disgusting. And we only see a tiny fraction collecting only from Tesco. And it worries me that because we are saving this and they aren’t having to pay for waste, it discourages them from actually reducing their waste. I don’t know what would actually solve that - a non-capitalist system I suspect.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Morning all,
I *still* have potatoes and satsumas - rang the shelter and they don't want them as they have Sainsbury's surplus.... a huge number of potatoes.
In the interests of potato eating, we had shepherdless pie last night, with free onions, carrots, potatoes and some very old puy lentils courtesy of Mum! So a virtually free meal 😂 Today we're going to have a go at what I can only describe as potato-based arancini - mashed potato in a ball with halloumi in the middle, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. And we've picked up some red peppers (from Olio) to make a potato hash recipe we've seen (which will also use free eggs) - we're eating very cheaply at the moment. Also collected some bagels, which were very nice for breakfast. Went to play badminton this morning, so got some value from DH's gym membership.
BIL and fiancee aren't coming this evening, so apart from deep frying potatoes, I think we'll have a quiet night - a film and a couple of drinks. Need to get out for a couple of walks too today to hit my steps.
MS things:
* Clicks and HW done - won 32p on the HW, going to be rich in no time!
* A few comps entered (back to just doing the minimum now, although I might enter a few today)
* free food
* 1P surveys
Gratitudes:
* free food - it's a good start for the no-buy Jan
* badminton
* plenty - we are so fortunate to have a warm house, plenty of food and company (human and feline).

Ironically I picked up my Aldi click and collect order and they didn’t have any potatoes. 🤣 thanks NG!
QJ, that’s a bit weird but I wonder if they were cheaper at Aldi and everyone bought them there instead?!
Potatoes are cooking in my instant pot (a year on I still love it and a friend has just got one on recommendation from me - it’s great fun sharing all the wonderful things it can do!). We’ve also had some spring rolls and sausage rolls from the freezer party food. Just going to have a chilled evening, some random food and either a film or some games.Happy New Year all! Evening all,
Happy Shiny, New 2022!
I feel a load has lifted.... a load of potatoes! Finally shifted the last two crates today by knocking on the doors of the in-laws neighbours (I actually know most of them) and dropping some off with friends in that town. Hooray! Also went for a walk with the in-laws while we were there, so 3rd day of 10,000 step streak. This morning DH and I went ice skating at a local seasonal rink - we hadn't been since sixth form (*ahem* a shocking nearly 20 years ago), but I only fell over 3 times and actually felt quite confident by the end. It was good fun - something to repeat next year.
We had a quiet evening yesterday and were in bed by 11.30. Was just falling asleep when there were very noisy fireworks nearby... I tried very hard not to be grumpy! The potato/cheese balls were very disappointing, but the spring rolls and sausage rolls from the freezer were nice. Very beige though.
We are having a 'roast' this evening - veggie sausages as the 'meat', so I'm not sure how much of a roast it is. The potatoes, cauliflower, carrots and potatoes are all from Olio.
I've also signed up for a (weird) one-off collection of alternative milks from Costa on Tuesday. No idea how much there'll be but it'll be interesting.
MS things:
* I haven't spent anything this year! 🤣 (DH paid for the skating, prebooked - and also bought stuff in B&Q and some petrol)
* Free food for dinner
* Clicks and spins
Gratitudes:
* Lovely walk
* Ice skating
* Spreading NY joy with potatoes!

😂😂 at not spending anything so far this year 😂😂 shocking amount of food waste though, as you say. How awful. Well done you for collecting and distributing.8
