Travel expenses for training

Having been unemployed for 10 months i now have the chance of work with G4s for security at the 2012 Olympics.
Have had the interviews and passed the vetting stages so all thats required to to attend some training courses in Stratford and on completion of them, they will employ me.
So i went and asked the jobcetre for help in funding the travel cost, was told in NO UNCERTAIN terms NO WAY.
Now when you registerer for unemployment benefit you have to sign a contract to say that you will actively seek work, well i have been doing just that, now i cant afford to pay for the train tickets to get to Stratford to do the training to get the job(which the jobcentre put me forward for in the first place)
Catch 22 seems to spring to mind

    Im surprised they said no.

Theres something called a job grant. There is also the crisis loan. Search for them on the JCP site.

I would again go to the job centre, with proof of your job and everything, sit down with your advisor and explain you dont have the monies to go.
  • Thanks for you reply and have heard of the two things you mention. I took all the forms G4s sent me and showed them.Cant get an appoint with my advisor before the first training session. Have this afternoon applyed for a crisis loan but was told may not get it as i could soon be working. Will look into the job grant thing thank you.

Mate just go down again and ask to speak to the duty manager.

I know your plight and its rather sh*t that they expect you to go work but then they dont want to know whether you can pay for it or not.

you can get a crisis loan even if you are working. You also get the back to work grant of £100 if you are single as soon as you sign off & they should know this.
