Car won't lock!

Ok, after reporting on here about our saga with a MOT and high quote to put the work right, we sought a second opinion. Found another garage who quted £300 less to do the work (and other bits aside).
The rear passenger door hasn't unlocked for over a year. Passed MOT last year with this fault, but failed this year because the door won't open. Costs of replacement lock £45 + VAT. Garage said they wouldn't charge any labour to change it as a small job.
However inspite of the garage fiddling with the car for 4 days now, theyhave just called my DH to say all works completed, MOT issued BUT the door that previously wouldn't open - now won't lock! Where does that leave us with insurance?
Should we be insisting that they sort it so that the door locks?

The problem is that it could be the ECU which is faulty, or wiring - which could be expensive.
I can remember my parents driving round in a car with a good old fashioned slide bolt on the passenger door. Driver would lock the passenger door with the bolt, then exit through drivers door.0 -
Its a 12 years old VW Passat so only has the most basic of central locking. All other doors have been working fine, no prob. Typical to overcome one hurdle only to be confronted with another !
Can't leave the car anywhere if I can't fully lock it, as the Insurance won't pay out if it were stolen.

You could, shock horror, MANUALLY lock it when you get out using the inside door handle or button.0

Take it back to the garage that fixed it and tell them it wont lock.
You paid them to fix the lock and its not fixed. If you didnt pay anything to get it fixed then pay them to fix it properly this time.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The garage have told us that they can't get it to lock - manually or otherwise. It was locked before it went to garage, in fact it couldn't unlock which is why they replaced the lock to get it through the MOT. The garage said they wouldn't charge any labour as another job they had already charged labour for hadn't taken as long as they thought - so we did sort of pay IYSWIM.0
