    Hi SnD, Chin Up

As has been said by others ... you can only make the final decision yourself ... I (we) can only advise ... offer previous experiences....

I know I'm so glad I didn't ... it's NOT as though I was living the other side of the world and hadn't seen Mum for months, or because of work commitments even just a week or two, it was only a couple of days.

We all knew she was ill and, I suppose, quite surprised that she had lasted so long .....

all my real memories of her are when she was at her best, laughing and smiling, long before her illness and the sadder times .....
I didn't need to see her and have the final memory at the saddest time of all :(

You were with your dad only a day or so before weren't you?

And like me, lots of photographs and recent moments etc. to treasure already ....

    All the best
    Q

Excellent post Quoia....I would second that.....:T:T:T:A

I did not see my mum and still have the golden moments I spent with her in my meories ......

MAG – what a lovely post again. Will definitely make a decision today, be it right or wrong. There would have been no question of me not going if I could have seen dad sooner. I am just aware that 10 days have now passed which is what is making my decision difficult.
PM – September is a great month. We got married early September and had the most wonderful sunny day. We went camping to Scotland for our honeymoon and the weather was something similar to what we have had in June so we had to come home early, but even rain was good fun on honeymoon! ;);)

BP – Being in work was interesting to say the least. People I thought would come and say hello ignored me, guess they didn’t know what to say, yet others who I hardly have any dealings with did come and speak. The one person I consider a good friend, said she couldn’t ring me or call last week as she was too upset at my news! I suppose everyone has different ways of dealing with death, none are right or wrong, maybe just different to how I would deal with a colleague who has had bereavement.
    Thank you for the link.

DH is going to try and go to a local alarm company at the weekend and see if they can suggest some sort of intercom for mum’s front door. At least she would know who is there before she opens the door. Apparently social services only offer a key safe but only for “vulnerable people” who cannot physically open the door, so mum not in that category! We would feel so much happier if we knew she wasn’t just opening the door to anyone! Mum and I going to RNIB resource centre tomorrow in Liverpool so see what they have to offer.

MT – glad you have got your car back

I cannot thank you all enough for your personal messages about seeing someone who has died. It is so good to hear of other people’s experiences.
The support from this thread has been unbelievable. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
I will post later what I decide to do.

    Morning all:)

SND hope you had a nice time on your evening out :A. Don't let the time make a difference to your decision as the funeral directors would guide you if they thought unsuitable. I by chance spoke to my friend last night who didn't manage to get to see her mum until the day before the funeral she said they had done her proud so don't think about the 10 days.:A:A:A

Thanks MT for pics last night:A Great news on getting car back:j

MAGS you really need to put your writing talent to more use maybe can use it to earn some income while you ponder your next move as can be freelance so come into as much contact with people as you choose. You have a wonderful way with words if you been blessed with a talent pity not to put it to use;):A:A:A
  • Dear SnD, I don't want to upset you or anyone but I just wanted to be honest and share with you this: Chloe was released late by the Coroner because of the circumstances and I was so scared, completely thrown into the chaos of the most unenviable decisions of funeral arrangements and choices but I am glad, without doubt, that I spent time with her. SnD, all I would say, just so that I wouldn't want you to be shocked, is that around 10 days (I was told) some blackening can occur (fingertips, lips)(but not in everyone) and some bloating. OMG, I feel so detached writing those words, but I have to be to offer you some experience. To be truthful I found seeing my baby's fingertips blackened made me howl all the more, but the flip side was I needed a reality check for all I had wanted to do until that moment was collect her myself from the Morgue (such an odious word), wrap her up, take her home, put her to bed and look after her.

Quoia has a different experience and her poignant post leaves me wondering how I will cope when my parents' evening of life draws to a close. Sadly I am estranged from my Dad in particular and as I write I feel in my heart that I would rather remember them from a time when I felt loved by them. My Dad is 91 and my mum coming up to 89, when I last saw them I was quite distressed at their senescence so I can truly appreciate from the sidelines your quandary Snd.

We are all holding you close in our thoughts today Snd, and wish we could take away some of the burden.

PM, awaiting announcement of delivery... you must be very excited, bless you.

MT, so pleased you have your car back, your wombling ground has not been visited by moi, lol so go fill yer boots. x

AH, I am flattered by your comments, thankyou. It has been suggested several times that I should share my written word, its often been something I dream about; I just wish I had the confidence in myself that others have in me. Ive always been a wordy kind of gal, and like to paint a pretty picture with heart-to-heart written babble... lol

I dream (illusions of grandeur, lol) that I one day become another J K Rowling, and you will all say, ooh, I knew her... Get over yourself, MAG! lol.

For now I will just share it all with you and then I can hide in the corner.

Also, not impressed with the weather forecast; it did not say rain for us today and sheesh, its raining AGAIN! agh! Im gonna sue!
Love, through the trees, past the sky, beyond the northern lights; and I won't let go. May your soul and spirt fly sweetheart x
