I took delivery of my new settee this week, which is cream:eek: I've got the seat part covered with a throw, but want to make some arm covers, but have no idea how to do it. The arms are a bit shaped, so I'm guessing I need to make a template? Any help greatly appreciated as always.

wouldn't it have been easier to buy a coloured sofa instead of a cream one you have to cover up ?0

Iowa-Lot, unfortunately they didn't have coloured sofas reduced from £1500 to £320 or else I might have. Thank you for your useful post.0

Hi Soba
One way to do it is to make a template (as you suggested) with paper. Using the paper as aguide. Then add a 1/2 inch (12.5 cm) seam allowance to allow you to sew the pieces together. Or if paper isn't flexible enough use a cheap or old pillow case as a fabric template and again add the seam allowance.

hi i made some for my sofa!
decide how long and deep you want the arm covers to be
make a paper pattern of the end of the arm by simply putting paper by it and marking and cutting,
add a seam allowance of about 1/2 an inch all around
measure the lenth of arm you want to cover
measure around the end template
add seam allowance all around
cut a rectangle of fabric this length
pin, tack and then sew the end to the rectangle (right sides together) i do 2 rows of stitching for strength
clip into the seam on the inside of the seam so it will lay flat being carefull not to cut stitches
turn in twice all around the edge to get a neat finish, iron and then put on the sofa and admire!
its a good idea to make 2 sets or at least keep the pattern you made, as the second set will be much quicker without having to make a new pattern.
good luck! they are much easier than they sound to make!!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
