Hi there,
My OH is about to have a phone interview with his first potential contract role. Problem is we've just found out the agent he's been speaking with is from a consultant agency? Is this different from a recruitment agency? He's just looking through the terms and look s like they will be paying him? This means we cant go down the Ltd route?
I've told him to go ahead with the interview to get his foot in the door as a contractor then move on to setting up his Ltd when this role is finished.
Any advice please?

It is normal for the agent/consultant to pay the contractor as that is how they ensure they get their share rather than the client paying the contractor.
There are some recruitment agencies that call themselves "consultancies" but they are just agencies. Then you get true consultancies that hire contractors and evidently farm them out to clients (though with true consultants you may still be going through an agency).
In most cases they will want you to be a Ltd or use an umbrella to avoid their own issues but the people you are speaking to will confirm0 -
Thank you! most helpful :0)0
