Reimbursing Interview Expenses – Where Do You Stand?

Just read this: http://www.jobsite.co.uk/worklife/reimbursing-interview-expenses-8917/

I had an interview on Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised that at the end they gave me a form to claim back my expenses - adding up the cost of driving to the station, the train ticket and parking it came to a bit over £30 - so getting it reimbursed will be nice

What are your opinions of re-imbursement?

employers - do you offer re-imbursement?

have you been put off applying to jobs because of the costs of getting to the interview?

Companies can be a bit slow in paying up but all the ones who have offered this scheme have honoured it and paid

They should offer reimbursement if the interview is at a different location to the job. Yes it does put me off if the interview is in London but the job is in my local town. I would always ask to be reimbursed.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I have only claimed expenses once. That was for a graduate scheme assessment day and it required me to be there all day to do a series of tests. In that situation I think it is a good idea.

I wouldn't ever expect to be reimbursed but I think it's a positive sign about them as an employer if they are the sort of business that does this.

My last interview offer did come with a form for expenses but only if you lived a certain distance away and I lived to close.

Have three times been offered reimbursement, once as a standard part of their process, the other two because of interviews being cancelled after I already travelled. Never actually had reimbursement for any.

I dont offer reimbursement as standard though I am sympathetic to those that are intending to relocate for the role so will normally try and do round 1 of the interview by telephone to save them travelling.

When I was job hunting, 18 months or so ago, I had several interviews but never once was I offered any travel expenses. This seems to be the norm now.

I have never heard of an employer refunding travel. You either go the interview or not but if you are ont Work Programme you can get all the travel back.
