Nil balance credit card statement

I've just received the statement for one of credit cards - the first one we have paid off :j :j

Felt really good until I opened the rest of the post and realised I now have to start paying back my student loan  Mixed feelings really as I now earn too much to continue deferring it which is good (took me 10 years to get there!) but its another payment going out each month.

Ive been offered 0% for 6 months on this card for balance transfers so may transfer the balance from another card onto it. There's a 2.5% transfer charge but think it still works out cheaper than leaving debt on 13.8% card. Only dilemma is that zero balance is a very nice feeling but on other hand zero balance would then be on 13.8% card.

Congrats! I had this a little while back too, except I'd overpaid and got a statement telling me they owed me £35 :D

If it works out cheaper, do it! Then cut the other card up....in fact cut them both up so there's no temptation! :D

    Well done on clearing it!

Thanks. I'll have to pluck up the courage to cut the cards up. Its a big step because it has a £15k limit but I know I need to do it.

    Nice one Kazl,

Just too say that it may feel like a big ste pcutting up a card but that 15k Credit limit will proof a temation and you could end up at square one again with a massive debt.

Good luck with the next card ;)

I wanted to frame my first £0 balance statement as well! :D

At the end of the day, its important to remember that you did pay off the card (even if you then put something else onto it - and by doing that, you are zero-ing...or at least making a huge dent in...another card, so transfer your feeling of pride and happiness to the dent you have made in the second card instead!;)). The achievement is still there, so feel rightly pleased with yourself. :T

    Well done!

(And I agree with Kazl - a £15k limit is very tempting...and you would have to have a serious emergency to "need" an emergency £15k... Go on - cut it up! :p)
