How to find a mortgage broker

The last time we moved - 15 years ago - we used a mortgage broker, recommended by the Newcastle BS, who found us a really good deal.

Now we're 4moving again, and we're wondering, with all the information online and comparison tables, is it still worth using one? And, if so, how do we find a good one?

Our situation is slightly complicated by the fact that we are moving in with my parents (they're selling their bungalow and will contribute towards the cost of the new house - but we will need a loan to tide us over until their bungalow is sold; it's in a popular area, so there's no obvious reason why it won't sell fairly quickly). We will also need a small longer term mortgage.

Is a mortgage broker the way to go ?

I would say so (although I am slightly biased!!!) your case isnt straight forward so I would get a good Independent Mortgage Advisor on the case. How to find a good one is difficult though, friends and family are a good source of referals. Avoid your bank as their only have their own products to offer. Avoid an EA based Mortgage Salesman too

Google, freeindex, unbiased.co.uk those are all things i would look at. You might see some reviews, take them with a pinch of salt as you dont know if its their friends and family who have done them.
