Should I chase up result of interview?

Hi Everyone,

I had my second interview last Wed at a company where my friend works. He said I would find out 'next week' meaning this week. It's Thursday today and I have heard nothing, I am on holiday abroad all week and wanted to know so I could hand in my resignation tomorrow to give 4 weeks notice should I get the job.

What would you do?

Personally, I would give them a ring and say you appreciate they are busy but you will be out of the country next week on holiday and wondered if they had made a decision. No way could I go on holiday wondering if I had or hadn't got that job. I just couldn't relax. What have you got to loose?

Don't do anything, this week still includes tomorrow.

If you have told them your going on holiday on such a date they should/could let you know even by Saturday depending on the company opening hours.

Good luck anyway I see second interviews as a good sign but you are usually up against 3 people so don't hand in your notice until you have the go ahead.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

You should really do a follow-up call/letter (if it went ok) to say that you enjoyed meeting them and look forward to hearing back from them. It shows willing.

I'd give them a call and ask if they had come to any sort of decision. Don't bring up your personal circumstances as they won't take kindly to being pressured into a decision. If you do, it will likely be a straightforward, NO.

Agree with Ditzy- you are on the shortlist and deserve at least feedback on your performance at the interview if not a final decision (always a good idea to ask anyway even if you don't get the job, it shows you are willing to take feedback to improve your performance next time around and leaves them with a good impression of you).

    Good luck! :D

Thank you for all your replies.

I followed up the interview with a thank you email and got a reply asking for an electronic copy of my powerpoint presentation.

I really want to know before going on holiday, otherwise I won't be able to relax but don't want to appear pushy.

I know there's still tomorrow but would be great if I could hand in resignation tomorrow IF I get the job.

I should add that the company only operates Mon-Fri. Technically I don't leave the country til 6pm so could pop into work to hand it in on Mon am.

Just an update, I did call up Thursday afternoon and I did get the job! She was going to call me that same day anyway.

If I was to go through it again, think I should have waited it out til Friday afternoon if I am honest. As I'm glad I got the job but it's just not as exciting! lolz
