Tax query - refund? Emergency Tax?

Bit complicated but perhaps someone can kindly help me out here.
I have been claiming JSA since December 2010 and will sign off on 12th March 2010 when I start my new job.
Within that claim perdion, I had one temporary job for about 3 months (May 2011 - August 2011), via an agency. In that period I was being taxed on Emergency Tax Code as they have said I have not provided them with P45 when I started ( a lie, I did, they lost it but never mind).
When I finished working through them, they have sent me their P45 and I have called the Tax Office to get the overpaid tax back but was told as I started to sign on (JSA) immediately after that job - I could not claim the overpaid tax (?)_till end of financial year or till I get another job.
Now, I am starting a new job this coming Monday on the 12th, by the time I get my P45 from Jobcentre, the payroll cut off date will be gone and looks like I will be taxed on emergency again, at lest for the end of March salary.
1) How do I go about claiming the overpaid tax for my 2011 job back? And as I was on JSA for 8.5 months out of 12 between April 2011 and April 2012, will I be albe to claim all the tax back or just what was overpaid as emergency tax code was being used?
2) New job - here I assume that once they process the P45, they should be able to adjust my tax code for the correct one and give me back whatever will be overpaid as emergency tax code in March salary straight in my April salary? Am I correct here?
Thanks a lot - if anyone can help.

If you fill in a p46 and hand that into your new job you should not be emergency taxed. Then just hand in your p45 once you receive it. As for your other query I'm not 100% sure. I was given a refund for overpaid tax after I received my p60.0

Thank you.
How did you get your refund? With your salary automatically or did you have to contact the Tax Office and they sent a cheque?0 -
I am sure the tax office will send you the refund. I got one at the end of last years tax year as I had paid too much tax at my last job between April and June 2010. As I was signing on at the time it went right into my bank but they will send you a cheque/giro.
Sign a P46 then as soon as you get the P45 (no later than 6 weeks after you start at the new job) hand it on and this years tax will be ok.
Oh oos just realised prob only one pay till end of the year and you will be on emergency so you will get the refund when the P60's are probably done and it will still come from the tax office0 -
Thanks - I am really interested if I can get ALL the tex paid during the 3 months I was working - as was on JSA for the rest of the year? Or just the difference between normal tax and emergency tax that was being deducted as JSA for the rest of the year counts as "taxable income".....
Thanks again0 -
If the whole of your income was less than your yearly allowance, then yes.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

When I finished at a job in January one year I sent the P45 for that to the tax office requesting them to recalculate their records and issue a refund. Since even with the jobseekers I wouldn't go over the personal allowance for the year I got all of the tax back.
If you send in a copy of your Jobseekers P45 and the prior short term job one then they should process the request to do a refund calculation. They may wait until after April to do it though since we are so close to the end of the tax year.
As for the new job if your tax code is changed from Emergency tax to normal then it would normally be refunded in your next payslip. However since it is the end of the year it might not and you might have to request a refund.
I'd probably wait until April and then send in your two P45s and the new employers P60 and ask for the recalculation.0
