Daughter's new job - success!

My daughter is a care assistant and has worked for an agency for two and a half years. She is on a zero hours contract and it is either feast or famine with her hours. She loves the work but would prefer to have a regualr amount of hours (preferably around 40 per week). She also works for two other agencies, but has had little work from either.

Last year, she worked for a few weeks for a client via her main agency. She has had occasional shifts at the same place since then, and is there at the moment (finishes at 10pm). The work is with older people who need support and personal care. She recently applied for a job with this particular employer and found out today that she has been successful :D

The hours are regular, not as many as she would like, but there is overtime available as well. She could also keep on some agency work. Her regular hours are earlier in the day, so she can keep up with her voluntary work as well, which she loves. She was willing to give this up if necessary, but is delighted that it isn't a problem.

Her hourly rate is higher, she will have paid holidays, and there is the option to train for her NVQ level 3 (she has her level 2). There is also other training available, much of it mandatory, and she is quite happy with this.

Best of all, she loves the place that she will be working at and gets on well with the other staff.

I'm so happy for her - she works hard and has wanted to work for this particular company since she had her first agency shifts there last summer. It does mean an early start, but that doesn't bother her - and I'll get a coffee in bed before she leaves for work :rotfl:

Congrats on your daughter getting a more stable job! Can I ask what she volunteers in?

She volunteers for GirlGuiding UK as a Brownie and Rainbow assistant guider (I'm the unit guider).

In some ways it is totally different - young children rather than the elderly, no personal care involved, singing, crafts and other activities. In other ways, it has some similarities, such as precise record keeping and being a caring role. Working for an agency, volunteering has helped her as she has been suitable for looking after disabled children. It can be hard for agencies to find people who are able to find appropriate activities for children with disabilities, and my daughter has experience through her voluntary work as well as her home life - my son has severe disabilities. Voluntary work can also show commitment and loyalty, as well as increasing confidence and self esteem and enhancing skills that are essential in the workplace.

McKneff - proud mum indeed :D. How can you tell :rotfl:
