Hello, i’m wondering whether someone can help me because i’m coming to the end of my tether.
Yesterday I purchased two new spotlights (consisting of 3 lights – 240w NR50 SES) for my hallway. I have three switches in my hall a double located next to front door which controls both and two separate ones for each individual light.
I changed the lights and both appeared to work fine until this morning. For some strange reason one is working whilst the other has completely stopped.:(
I have a 5 amp fuse for the lights and this does not appear to have blown. I have checked the wiring which seems fine and in an attempt to verify whether the unit was at fault replaced the spot light to a standard light which occasionally flashes for a second seems not to respond.
The wiring for each unit consists of 4 earth wires, 3 red and 2 black. I have repositioned the wires exactly how they were from the previous lighting rose ie. 2x black into N, 1x red into L and the remaining have been placed into a 5 amp connector strip. I have used a connector strip as the new unit only contains a L and N and states it must not be earthed as it is double insulated.
The wires in the connector strip have been placed as Earth to earth x2 and red to red.
I do have photos if this doesn’t seem to make any sense but I would appreciate some advice...please!!
PS. I have changed it back and it still isnt working!
and I dont know how to attach photos on here!!

When you describe these problems, it is no good just giving an account of the number of wires and their colours. You need to describe the cables and the wires within them.
As one light seems not to respond, it sounds like you have a loose or broken wire, possibly in the connector strip - or in the light switch if you have had this away from the wall.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Check the connections at the light that is working, it could be a loose neutral at it and thats why the second light has stopped working as the neutral will be coming from the first light.0
