Is it worth buying a guitar online?

May I ask if it is better to buy a guitar online, just as you would prefer to buy a book or a TV from Amazon and other online retailers? Or should we still buy a guitar at a high street store?

Buying a guitar is a bit like getting a new pet and you wouldn't buy a pet without seeing it would you?
