I'm on my feet all day at work too and am quite heavy footed. I bought a pair of M&S shoes that were supposed to be really comfy and hardwearing, and 3.5 months later they have worn through to the metal components inside the heel.

My current work shoes are these: http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20347091 they're not that pretty but they're functional, and very comfy for running about all day. I also considered http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20333262 and http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20341193 but were a bit too narrow for my feet!

Soph - it's right in the centre of the sole that wears through, the part where your foot bends so there's probably most pressure on there.

I don't know why they wear out so quickly though as my work-days involve a 10-min walk from home to the station then another 10 mins at the other end, a bit of walking around in an office, and the same at the end of the day! It's not like I do work where I am standing or walking around all day so shoes should last.

That what happens to me too, i cant wear lots of shoes even for a day without them getting wrecked, my first day in London the heels wore right through too far to be reheeled! Some styles last longer before reheeling. I have really flat week and wear orthotics. Do you think you might need orthotics?

But with trainers specifically for overpronation they are not wearing out at all and its been months, first time ive experienced that.

Which is why i was thinking of exploring the idea of good trainers for walking to / from work and change your shoes there?

No idea, did you get your feet examined to find out? Where do you go to get this done?

I took the worn out pair back to the shop this afternoon and they have taken my details and are sending the shoes back to head office, they said I should hear back in 4 weeks. That's pretty good as I didn't have the receipt so was expecting to get no help at all.

(Though I do have my bank statement showing the payment for them and it's the only payment to M&S in about 9 months - since the last pair of shoes in fact! And I remember which branch I got them in, even what time of day it was, so my debit card payment will match their till records.)

    Hi
I get pumps from dotty p's Usually about £20 and i like them because they are often leather with a good grip and usually last me about 9 months with monday to friday wear.
Lately they've not had any good ones though so i tried shoezone ones which ended up unused after a month as they smelt so bad and i NEVER get smelly feet. Now i'm wearing barratts ones bought in November which are leather but have not held up so well- the bit over the toe seems to have caved in.
I find Clarks ones are often too ugly and too pricey for me.

Don't know how likely it would be get referred to a podiatrist on the NHS, i did but mine are bad!

Go to a private one would be the most likely option if you think you need to, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_feet.

i got a pair of mid heel courts from pavers (they have a channel on sky and are online aswell as in some towns.) The inside is totally padded and i did not have to wear them in at all. Cost £27.99 plus £2.99 p+p (p+p is capped no matter how many pairs you order). I got them as i saw them on the sky channel and the italian airlines use them for their staff. Was a little sceptical at first but my god they are sooo comfy and really well made - i will defineately get them again. I am on my feet for 10 hours and don't have tired aching feet at the end of my shift anymore as they are that comfy.

I am on my feet all day as a nurse and my husband got my shoes online. They are called Free-step. Not very pretty but very supportive as I have a high instep, made from leather AND they can go in the washing machine!

I've gone for hush puppies over the past few years. Always found them really comfortable. I have one pair that I've worn about half of my time at work for the past 4-5 years - they're still going strong!
They can be expensive, but I've always got mine from outlets for £10-30.

But I'd definitely return a pair of shoes which didn't last 6 months.

An update. Yesterday I got a nice letter from Marks' with a gift card for the full price of the shoes! And I bought a gorgeous pair of Doc Marten shoes which arrived Monday & are wearing in very comfortably. So all's well.

Saturnalia, can I ask how much you paid for your DM's? I have a pair of boots at present but wouldn't mind a pair of shoes. They are just so expensive :(
