I trialled one delivery for an old person, so was sitting and watching what happened so I could judge if they were mentally able to receive a delivery.

Door rang, random stranger at the door wtih plastic boxes containing plastic bags. You then had to get the bags out of the boxes; driver then came back with another 1-2 boxes (it was a very small/trial order) and wanted [a] a signature to be able to take their empty boxes and leave.

    Money taken from card automatically.

Didn't do it again.... the old person wasn't able to cope with it.

Try ocado, do believe they bring shopping into kitchen & have very good reviews generally.

@ southpark, what a bloody waste of time your post was, not only did I have to sit here reading and re-reading it through tears and laughing so much my dog was giving me funny looks, but I also had to stop typing this to chuckle. What a cheek! How dare you make me laugh so much!

YouTube has a few videos gives a little insight into how the online grocery biz works.

Ocado - production line type system.

Sainsbury - How the personal shoppers work.

Ocado perform v.good as they can concentrate on fulfillment n deliveries and nowt else. (where do they get the Waitrose stuff from?)

Supermarkets have to please instore and online customers. (personal shoppers v instore customers)

Sainsbury delivery was funny earlier as the driver showed me the eggs.

(you can always tell somebody new in a Supermarket store as the cashier checks the eggs!)

I've just ordered for the first time from Sainsbury's and it's being delivered this afternoon. I wasn't sure what to expect but this thread has helped me and i've just watched the youtube video by Sainsbury's explaining how it all works. My biggest concern is use-by dates, but they pick the longest apparently. I can spend ages looking for the best dates on the shelves and hope they do the same.

Also found a £10 off voucher and saved over £15 with their offers!

Just now need to wait for my red cross parcel to arrive! :D

Yes we're told to pick the longest dates or best available dates but cant spend too long looking for the longest date.

God luck with the delivery, as your a first time customer the driver should explain about any subs(if you chose to accept subs) that have been made and what to do if you reject them.

Never had any issues with Ocado.

They're owned by John Lewis (who also own Waitrose ;))

Late reply but relevant if you are still looking.

I have my shopping delivered usually by Tesco and sometimes Asda .

I am in a wheelchair so the delivery men always bring my shopping into my kitchen and unload the bags onto the worktops for me. They always point out the substitutions on the delivery note, which are usually packed in blue carrier bags but admittedly are sometimes harder to find if I want to reject them. Most substitutions have been acceptable and the drivers have been more than helpful in assisting me.

Any new person is a 'random stranger' but over time you become familiar with the drivers, and I would suggest that perhaps they were not so helpful in your case because you were there and maybe they thought you would be helping the elderly person to unpack. If you ask for help they will do so , at least they do for me. All I need to do is sign for the goods and then put them all away in my own time.

Please don't give up after one try - it's worth another shot as it gets easier with experience.

Failing that, maybe deliveries of ready-made meals such as Wiltshire Farm Foods would be more suitable.

    Hope this helps someone.

Just received my first delivery, it was 30mins early and the driver called me to ask if it was OK to deliver early as he was near my street.

He went through everything with me and told me about the 2 substitute products (normal bread instead of seeded and a different fragrance of fabric softener, though i was looking forward to smelling of orange blossom!:D). He was very polite and made conversation whilst i unpacked the boxes. I was also given some Nectar vouchers for my next shop.

Altogether a very pleasant experience and i will be shopping with Sainsbury's online again! :)

Not anymore. They sold their 29% stake back in 2011. They have a 10-year branding and supply agreement, that is all. Just wish they delivered in my area. The North East is obviously not good enough for them!
