Do you know anyone that has done Avon? - the reason I ask is that there was a thread on here about it a while ago, and although a few people made a reasonable profit from it, most people struggled to make much of anything at all, and you have to pay upfront for the catalogues, bags etc. I'm not saying don't do it (i've never done it myself, so I can't advise), but if they do take you on, just be cautious. I'd hate it to turn into another pile of stress for you.

    that.
Good luck, there has been some excellent advice given.

  • Hi

Thats what I am trying to do at the moment, but it is a struggle.
We don't yet know how much are meters for the gas and electric are going to be set at to cover the debt and fuel.
I was thinking of paying that off as soon as i can, and that will be £200 spare to go towards everyone else.
The one that concerns me most is the Egg Loan as it is such a huge amount.
I really don't know where to start with that one.
I really do want to pay them though.
The thing is, also, some are being passed constantly to diff debt collection agencies, so I haven't a clue who to contact to arrange to pay.
Also most of the letters dont even state who the original creditor was!
Its such a mess to be honest!
  • Hi. Well done on doing the full SOA. Good to see you addressing the council tax issue and are repaying that back as a priority. With regards to the electricity and gas meters - hows that going to work are you going prepay? How are they going to get their money back? Just wondered as you might want to allocate £15 a week to them or whatever in your budget. These are probably the things you want to prioritise: house, heating, lighting, food etc. Also the next thing to tackle is probably the doorstep loan as they are probably not the most flexible and are probably charging loads of interest on it.
Good Luck with it all. Small steps at a time- you can do it :T

How much can I save in 2012 challenge

  • I can't add much here except to say that if you keep a diary on where every penny goes, you will soon see the wood for the trees.

Oh, and welcome. I hope this site is helpful. it's been pretty handy for me.

  • Thanks

The meters are set to a certain cost per unit, so I say put 30 a week on a card, insert it into a meter, 10 of that goes towards the debt, 20 towards the electric/gas.
It means I can only use what gas and electric i pay for, and i am paying the debt off.
If i don't put enough on the card, I have no electric or gas..simple as that.

the only advice i can offer, is when you save your change, don't use the machines that are in asda etc, as they take a percentage of it, you're better taking it to the bank to be changed, i know it's only a small amount, but every penny helps i suppose.
  • Hi Bunny,

    Thanks for the advice.
The only trouble is my nearest Branch is in my city centre, and by the time I have drove there and paid for parking, I havent saved a penny!
I did once try the post office but they charged me 10p in every pound which is dearer than Asda!

    Thanks again

  • Hi,

According to my figures and based only on the payments you are making now you have £114.87 per week to spend on food, clothes, cigs, social life. To stop further overspend I suggest you write this amount in a little book on a Monday and write down everything you spend/withdraw.

I have not included a figure for the gas/elec nor any of the large debts and this too needs to be taken into consideration after the meters are fitted.

If you are renting and you have no other assets I suggest you consider bankruptcy as you do not stand any chance of realistically paying off these debts. I suggest you take advice from the CAB about such action.

    Good luck:

    The figures are as follows:

    income weekly monthly
    self 0.00
    partner 280.00
    tc 65.00
    cb 30.00
    maint 25.00

    total 400.00 0.00 divide by 4.33
    £-

    £400.00 total weekly income

    spend weekly monthly
    rent/mortgage 85.00
    council tax 190.00

    mags 4.48
    petrol 20.00
    car tax 10.08

    total 125.00 693.89 divide by 4.33
