Asking for a payrise in the current climate

Hi
I've been with my current firm six years this year and have only had one pay rise in 2008.
I feel like asking my boss for a rise saying that in effect my salary has gone down each year due to inflation. Part of me says I should be lucky to have a job.

The climate has always been current for as long as I have known it. So don't let that put you off.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Have any of your colleagues had a rise in the past few years that you know of? What is the firms general policy on pay rises? Does it depend purely on the company performance or individual achievements or both?
If your own performance has been well above the average and has been reflected in reviews, you should be able to take a constructive case to your boss and see where that takes you. Depending on the situation and the company, even if they cannot offer a straight £ rise, you maybe able to negotiate another benefit instead.0 -
