Help required - Mortgage missed payments/credit history

Hi,
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, give me advice. Myself & the g/f have had a mortgage with the A&L for the last 4 years with no missed payments out of my account (we each have seperate accounts). We sent a letter to the A&L changing our details to a different joint account instead of a seperate savings account which was being used to pay the mortgage. They say they never recieved it and tried for as it turns out 3 months to take the payment from the other account. We never received any letters saying the payments has failed. I noticed checking our bank statements our account seemed high and after checking could see no deductions. In contacting them they said we had cancelled our bank debit and they had sent us letters saying we had missed payment, warning of actions and the like. Then they claimed a problem with the post might be to blame and some of our letters were returned. Rubbish. Straight away I paid the balance owed to A&L (3 months approx £1700) by debit card from our account and sorted everything. On top of this our mortgage rate has changed due to recent increases by Bank of England and we never recieved any of them which I assume u have to?
As a result we have 3 missed payments on our account which will no doubt affect our credit history and the like. The A&L claims we can change this due to repaying straight away. Is this possible? How can I sort this?
And help would be really appreicated.
Thanks

You could register a dispute with the credit agencies Experian and Equifax, but in all honesty the best way would be to sort it out with A&L. Write a letter to their Mortgage Customer Services Department in Leicester stating about the letter you wrote and the lack of any post received by yourselves. Point out it is only because you spotted the problem that it has been rectified. Ask them to remove the late payment history from your file and to write and confirm when it has been done. It should then all sort itself out. Until it is done, you may find you would be declined for credit etc, so refrain from trying in the short term. You may want to ask for a small amount of compensation for your time and effort to sort it out?!0
