JSA claim for self employed

Hi, hoping for a little bit of advice.
My wife is currently self employed (she's been getting Maternity Allowance for the last 9 months) - this has now finished. She still isn't working again as we now have the 2 kids to look after.
I am working full time on PAYE >£30k per year.
My wife wants to do an NVQ level 3 in beauty and they offer the course for free if you're claiming Job Seekers Allowance. So my question is how I should proceed so we can get the course for free?
I once called the Job Centre plus (when my wife wasn't working or self employed) and they said because I am earning, she wouldn't quality for JSA so there is no point even applying, so it seems we're stuck. Any advice gratefully received.

I think that as you are earning then your wife may well not be entitled to receive JSA? If she wants to do the course then she will have to pay for it herself - as surely her self employment would allow her to do this?0

Hi Horace - no not really as she isn't working anymore. She's had to stop due to us having 2 kids to look after.0

You're not stuck at all. She will just have to pay for the course. To get it on JSA she'd need to be unemployed for a qualifying period anyway - about 3 months.0

Forgot to mention.... we're broke. I am on a debt management plan as we're struggling to make ends meet with a mortgage.... so yes - we are stuck unless we can get this free.0

No chance of you getting if free, when on job seekers allowance you have to be job seeking.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
