Do I sign off or not?

JUst got told I start my new job tomorrow at 2! My sign on appointment is at 12! Thing is what if I really dont like the job then I will have no money coming in at all! Also they have given hours for next month and as its only a Bank Nurse position I havent got that many hours! 24 1st week, 12 the next, 36 the following and then 18. Really don't know what to do!

there are lots of people doing jobs they dont like but do them because it pays the bills, why do you think you should have a choice of work or welfare? you must have trained for a while to get this far so why do you think you wont like it?
the hours you are booked down for average at about 20 per week and will put you above your jsa by a few quid and set you in place for any other hours as and when they come up

never sign off until you are sure you are going to keep the job. Made that mistake once, got shafted by working for a college as an exams administrator, signed off like a goodun. On the first day they told me that I'd be working at the other campus over the other side of the city! Never told me that the role entailed working at various colleges across the city, without transport the job was impossible. I left that afternoon.

Having already signed off I tried to make a re-claim. Went through all the appropriate forms but then was hit with a sanction for 6 months for leaving a job without good reason. Tried to appeal they still ruled in against me as the college were adamant it was discussed at interview (it was never mentioned). Fortunately I managed to get a part time job within a few weeks which kept me tied over until I found a F/T job. Had that happened today I'd be screwed because jobs are much harder to come by.

Wait until you have done a couple of days then send the form in to sign off. If after the first day you don't like it then just leave and continue to sign on as normal. If you had signed off the morning you started it could spell disaster for your benefits.

If you remain signed on you can still get benefits for any weeks that are less than 16 hours as long as you are still searching for work and meeting the requirements of JSA.
