Agency Job

Hello, this is probably a very stupid question but I have seen a job advertised which I am interested in applying for. Its online & you have to send your CV to the agency advertising it. My only problem is that although the job is local the actual agency isnt so close. Im wondering therefore if it is always the case that you have to go to the agency to register with them before you go for the interview with the company the job is for (if you are lucky to get that far !) ive only gone for a job once this way before & had to join the agency before they would advise me where the job was so am not sure if its the same in every case.
Many thanks

    I'd ring them and ask.

In my experience (secretarial/PA) mostly they DO want you to register but sometimes if you explain (like interviews being arranged soon and you living a while away from agency) then sometimes a chat with agency suffices.

But in the end you normally have to register afterwards.

If the job and agency weren't too far apart maybe you could register just before/after the interview?

Normal procedure is to register with the agency, if you send a cv then the agency will look at it and if suitable give you a ring to get you registered, but they don't normally give you any job details until you are contacted or registered with them.

With a lot of organisations they will have agencies on their preferred supplier list so it isn't always an agency close to where the role is based (national organisations)

I have been submitted for roles from agencies in Scotland and I live in London and registering has involved a discussion with the agency and then completing their paperwork and emailing it back to them so that may be the case in this instance.

Give them a call and ask them what their procedure is explaining your distance from their offices.

I think you will ultimately have to visit them and register.

Sometimes they will give you a written test to complete, but I think the main reason for visiting - as opposed to registering directly on line - is that they can check your eligibility to work in the UK.

They will likely ask you to bring a passport or other documentation to scan and retain on their records for future reference.

This was certainly my experience only a couple of years ago, so I suspect it will still be the same process.

It will depend, some will, some wont. Some will accept email scans of ID etc.

You can only truly find out by speaking to the agent in question

Just send your CV anyway. You dont always have to go to the agency. They will tell you if you have to or not. If its way too far, they probably wont make you travel to the agency. They may also accept scans etc. If you are claiming then they should pay for expenses if you do travel I THINK
